Henri de Miller's L’Écoute

L’Écoute (Listening), a popular sculpture by Henri de Miller, dates from 1986. It creates an interesting contrast to the mighty church of Saint-Eustache (built between 1532 and 1632) that serves as its backdrop. It is rare to see this work of art not being used for photo opportunities or by children who delight in climbing atop it. When the adjacent glass and iron market stalls of Les Halles were torn down in 1969, the magnificent gothic structure of St-Eustache was afforded visual prominence as never before.
